This is a collection of personal photographs taken by Phil Loach over a period of thirty years or more. None of the images were commissioned or pre-arranged.

They all demonstrate Phil’s ability to react to opportunities developing around him. Using a variety of cameras and materials, he has created little observations of everyday life. Above all, he has responded with the enthusiasm of the true amateur to situations he has encountered in his world.

Professionally, Phil uses digital 35mm Nikons with lenses ranging from 14mm to 400mm. However, for his personal work he prefers to shoot film and uses lenses in the moderate 35mm to 105mm bracket, and finds himself drawn increasingly to the simplicity and discipline of the standard 50mm lens for 35mm format, and 80mm lens for medium format.

Negatives are scanned using high resolution Canon scanners, then basic traditional darkroom printing techniques are applied accordingly, but in the digital environment.  In some instances limited digital manipulation is applied to a photograph to further enhance the image.
